Executive Coaching

Executive coaching presents an opportunity to develop leaders in the context of their current jobs, without removing them from their day-to-day responsibilities. Our coaching approach uses reflective dialogue, thoughtful feedback and analysis, and results-based action planning; the goal is measurable behavior change. Coaching provides a mirror that helps individual’s view their behavior and become aware of how they can improve. Working together, our discussions reveal new behaviors the individual can try out in the real world with encouragement, insightful dialogue and support.

Measurable behavior change requires certain skills. These are internal disciplines that underlie the ability to make lasting change. In order to do this, we work with executives to help them:

  • Achieve greater self awareness: this includes understanding strengths and limitations, and the impact the individual’s behavior is having on others.
  • Improve their ability to self-monitor and self-correct: the ability to self-monitor and self-correct requires noticing in the moment the impact the individual is having in a particular situation, and choosing behavior that achieves a different or better result.
  • Read the environment more accurately: this is the individual’s ability to observe what is going on around him/her as objectively as possible. It requires holding back the instinctive reaction in order to evaluate the situation, with a greater awareness of personal biases and filters.
  • Take the appropriate action: this means taking action in order to have a positive impact on the situation. It ensures the individual makes good decisions about how to act appropriately given the unfolding situation.

We use a variety of techniques such as values clarification, self-assessments, reflection, feedback, accountability and real world practice.

Facilitated by Vivette Payne, and Jeff Studzinski.
